Spc. Rasheed Sahib, 22, of Brooklyn, New York. Sahib and another soldier in Balad, Iraq were cleaning their weapons
when the other soldier's weapon discharged striking Sahib in the chest. Sahib was assigned to 20th Field Artillery
Regiment, 4th Infantry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. Died on May 18, 2003.
Spc. Adriana N. Salem, 21, of Elk Grove Village, Illinois. Salem died in Remagen, Iraq when her military vehicle rolled
over. She was assigned to the 3rd Forward Support Battalion, Division Support Command, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort
Stewart, Georgia. Died on March 4, 2005.
Sgt. 1st Class David J. Salie, 34, of Columbus, Georgia. Salie died in Ba'qubah, Iraq, when his vehicle was hit by an
improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 2d Battalion, 69th Armor Regiment, 3d Infantry Division, Fort
Benning, Georgia. Died on February 14, 2005.
1st Lt. Edward M. Saltz, 27, of Bigfork, Montana. Saltz died in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device
struck his convoy. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Armored Division, based in
Giessen, Germany. Died on December 22, 2003.
Spc. Sonny G. Sampler, 23, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Sampler was looking for survivors in the Iraqi National
Guard Headquarters in Baghdad, Iraq after it was destroyed by a suicide car bomber, when it came under a mortar
attack. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Schweinfurt, Germany. Died on
July 8, 2004.
Pfc. Oscar Sanchez, 19, of Modesto, California. Sanchez died in Mosul, Iraq, when a vehicle-borne improvised
explosive device struck his observation post. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 24th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade, 25th
Infantry Division (Stryker Brigade Combat Team), Fort Lewis, Washington. Died on December 29, 2004.
Spc. Gregory P. Sanders, 19, of Hobart, Indiana. Killed in action in Iraq. He was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 69th
Armor, Fort Stewart, Georgia. Died on March 24, 2003.
Spc. Matthew J. Sandri, 24, of Shamokin, Pennsylvania. Sandri died in Fallujah, Iraq, when his living area came under
a rocket attack. He was assigned to the 82nd Forward Support Battalion, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North
Carolina. Died on March 20, 2004.
Staff Sgt. Barry Sanford, Sr., 46, of Aurora, Colorado. Sanford died of non-combat related cause in Balad, Iraq.
Sanford was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 101st Support Group, Fort Campbell, Kentucky.

1st Lt. Neil Anthony Santoriello, 24, of Verona, Pennsylvania. Santoriello died in Khalidiyah, Iraq, when an improvised

Spc. Jonathan J. Santos, 22, of Whatcom, Washington. Santos died in Karabilah, Iraq, when a vehicle-borne
improvised explosive device detonated near his vehicle. He was assigned to the 9th Psychological Operations Battalion,
4th Psychological Operations Group (Airborne), Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Died on October 15, 2004.
Pfc. Brandon R. Sapp, 21, of Lake Worth, Florida. Sapp died in Najaf, Iraq, when his M2 Bradley Fighting Vehicle hit
an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort
Hood, Texas. Died on August 15, 2004.
Staff Sgt. Cameron B. Sarno, 43, of Waipahu, Hawaii. Sarno was hit by a truck while changing his vehicle's tire in
Kuwait City, Kuwait, and died as a result of his injuries. Sarno was assigned to the 257th Transportation Company, U.S.
Army Reserve, Las Vegas, Nevada. Died on September 1, 2003.
Sgt. Stephen P. Saxton, 24, of Temecula, California. Saxton died in Baghdad, Iraq, when his unit was conducting a
route security mission and an improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV. He was assigned to the Armored
Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colorado. Died on May 3, 2005.
Sgt. Kenneth J. Schall, 22, of Peoria, Arizona. Schall died in Yusafiyah, Iraq, when the HMMWV in which he was riding
was involved in an accident. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 70th Armor Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 1st Armored
Division, Fort Riley, Kansas. Died on May 22, 2005.
Sgt. Kurt D. Schamberg, 26, of Euclid, Ohio. Schamberg died in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device
detonated near his HMMWV. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 10th Mountain
Division, Fort Drum, New York. Died on May 20, 2005.
Capt. Robert C. Scheetz, Jr., 31, of Dothan, Alabama. Scheetz died in Musayyib, Iraq, when his vehicle hit an
improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 6th Infantry Regiment, Baumholder, Germany. Died
on May 30, 2004.
Spc. Justin B. Schmidt, 23, of Bradenton, Florida. Schmidt died in Baghdad, Iraq, when a vehicle approached his unit
and the driver detonated a bomb. He was assigned to 4th Battalion, 27th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Armored Division,
Baumholder, Germany. Died on April 29, 2004.
Spc. Jeremiah W. Schmunk, 21, of Richland, Washington. Schmunk died in Baghdad, Iraq, when his vehicle came
under attack by rocket propelled grenade and small arms fire. He was assigned to the Company C, 1st Battalion, 161st
Infantry Regiment, 1st Calvalry, Washington National Guard, Moses Lake, Washington. Died on July 8, 2004.
Pfc. Sean M. Schneider, 22, of Janesville, Wisconsin. Schneider died as the result of a vehicle accident near
Baghdad. He was assigned to the 115th Forward Support Battalion, Fort Hood, Texas. Died on March 29, 2004.
Maj. Mathew E. Schram, 36, of Wisconsin. Schram was killed while traveling in a military convoy on a resupply mission
when they encountered enemy fire in Hadithah, Iraq. He was assigned to the HHT Support Squadron 3rd ACR, Fort
Carson, Colorado. Died on May 26, 2003.
Spc. Christian C. Schulz, 20, of Colleyville, Texas. Schulz died as a result of non-combat injuries in Baqubah, Iraq.
Schulz was assigned to the 3rd Troop, 67th Armor Battalion, Fort Hood, Texas. Died on July 11, 2003.
Pfc. Kerry D. Scott, 21, of Mount Vernon, Washington. While on a combat patrol, Scott's convoy was hit by an
improvised explosive device in Iskandariyah, Iraq. Scott was one of two soldiers killed in the blast. He was assigned to
1st Battalion, 32nd Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division, Fort Drum, New York. Died on October 6, 2003.
Spc. Stephen M. Scott, 21, of Lawton, Oklahoma. Scott died as a result of non-combat injuries in Baghdad, Iraq. Scott
was assigned to the 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson, Colorado. Died on August 23, 2003.
1st Lt. Aaron N. Seesan, 25, of Massillon, Ohio. Seesan died in Mosul, Iraq, from injuries sustained when an
improvised explosive device detonated near his HMMWV. He was assigned to the 73rd Engineer Company, Fort Lewis,
Washington. Died on May 22, 2005.
Spc. Marc S. Seiden, 26, of Brigantine, New Jersey. Seiden died in Baghdad, Iraq, when his convoy was ambushed by
the enemy who used an improvised explosive device, small arms fire, and a rocket-propelled grenade. He was assigned
to 2nd Battalion, 325th Airborne Infantry Regiment, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Died on January
2, 2004.
Capt. Christopher Scott Seifert, 27, of Williams Township, Pennsylvania. Killed in a grenade attack while sleeping in
a tent at Camp Pennsylvania, Kuwait. He was assigned to the 101st Airborne Division, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Died on
March 22, 2003.
Spc. Bernard L. Sembly, 25, of Bossier City, Louisiana. Sembly died in Baghdad, Iraq, when he was shot while
conducting dismounted combat operations. He was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 156th Armor
Regiment, 256th Brigade Combat Team, Shreveport, Louisiana. Died on May 19, 2005.
Sgt. Juan M. Serrano, 31, of Manati, Puerto Rico. Serrano was changing a tire on an M998 vehicle in Baghdad, Iraq
when it fell on him inflicting a fatal head injury. Serrano was assigned to Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 1st
Battalion, 37th Armor, 1st Armored Division, Friedberg, Germany. Died on July 24, 2003.
Staff Sgt. Michael B. Shackelford, 25, of Grand Junction, Colorado. Shackelford died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, when his
unit was conducting a dismounted patrol and encountered enemy forces using small arms fire. He was assigned to the
1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry Division, Camp Howze, Korea. Died on
November 28, 2004.
Sgt. 1st Class Wentz Jerome Henry Shanaberger III, 33, of Naples, Florida. Shanaberger died in Iraq when he was
investigating a suspicious vehicle and came under attack by individuals using small arms and an improvised explosive
device. Shanaberger was assigned to the 21st Military Police Company, 16th Military Police Brigade, XVIIIth Airborne
Corps, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Died on March 24, 2004.
Sgt. Jeffrey R. Shaver, 26, of Maple Valley, Washington. Shaver died in Baghdad, Iraq, when his convoy vehicle hit an
improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 161st Infantry, Spokane,
Washington. Died on May 12, 2004.
Spc. Casey Sheehan, 24, of Vacaville, California. Sheehan died in Baghdad, Iraq, when his unit was attacked with
rocket-propelled grenades and small arms fire. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 82nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st
Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. Died on April 4, 2004.
Sgt. Kevin F. Sheehan, 36, of Milton, Vermont. Sheehan died in Forward Operating Base Kalsu (Iskandariyah, Iraq,)

Sgt. Stephen R. Sherman, 27, of Neptune, New Jersey. Sherman died in Mosul, Iraq, from wounds sustained when an

Sgt. Jacob M. Simpson, 24, of Ashland, Oregon. Simpson died in Tal Afar, Iraq, when a rocket propelled grenade
struck the building he was securing. He was assigned to the 2nd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment from Fort
Carson, Colorado. Died on May 16, 2005.
Pfc. Charles M. Sims, 18, of Miami, Florida. Sims drowned in Baghdad, Iraq. He was assigned to the 549th Military

Capt. Sean P. Sims, 32, of El Paso, Texas. Sims died in Fallujah, Iraq, when his unit received small arms fire while

Spc. Uday Singh, 21, of Lake Forest, Illinois. Singh died of injuries sustained when enemy forces attacked his patrol in

Pfc. Steven F. Sirko, 20, of Portage, Indiana. Sirko died in Muqdadiyah, Iraq, of non-combat related injuries. He was

April 17, 2005.
Spc. Aaron J. Sissel, 22, of Tipton, Iowa. Sissel was traveling in a convoy in Husaybah, Iraq when his vehicle was hit by
enemy fire. Hew as assigned to the 2133rd Transportation Company, Army National Guard, based in Muscatine, Iowa.
Died on November 29, 2003.
Pfc. Christopher A. Sisson, 20, of North Riverside, Illinois. Sisson was in a UH-60 helicopter participating in an air
assault mission. He died of injuries sustained when the helicopter flipped and crashed on take off. Sisson was assigned
to the 3rd Battalion, 325th Parachute Infantry Regiment, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Died on September 2, 2003.
1st Lt. Brian D. Slavenas, 30, of Genoa, Illinois. Slavenas was on board a CH-47 Chinook Helicopter when it went
down in Al Fallujah, Iraq. The cause of the incident is unknown and an investigation is underway. He was assigned to F
Company, 106th Aviation Battalion, Army National Guard, Peoria, Illinois. Died on November 2, 2003.
Pvt. Brandon U. Sloan, 19, of Cleveland, Ohio. Killed in action after his convoy was ambushed in Iraq on March 23,
2003. He was assigned to the 507th Maintenance Company, Fort Bliss, Texas.
Pfc. Corey L. Small, 20, of East Berlin, Pennsylvania. Small died from a non-combat related cause in Iraq. Small was
assigned to the 502nd Military Intelligence Company, 2 ACR, Fort Polk, Louisiana. Died on July 2, 2003.
Sgt. Keith L. Smette, 25, of Fargo, North Dakota. Smette died as a result of injuries received when his convoy was
attacked with an improvised explosive device north of Fallujah, Iraq. He was assigned to 957th Engineer Company,
130th Engineer Brigade, Bismarck, North Dakota. Died on January 24, 2004.
Capt. Benedict J. Smith, 29, of Monroe City, Missouri. Smith died when the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter he was in was
shot down by unknown enemy ordnance in Tikrit, Iraq. He was assigned to 101st Aviation Regiment, 101st Airborne
Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Died on November 7, 2003.
2nd Lt. Brian D. Smith, 30, of McKinney, Texas. Smith died in Habbaniyah, Iraq when he was shot while conducting
combat operations. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 34th Armor, 1st Brigade, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas.
Died on July 2, 2004.
CW4 Bruce A. Smith, 41, of West Liberty, Iowa. Smith was the commanding pilot of a CH-47 Chinook Helicopter when it
went down in Al Fallujah, Iraq. Smith was assigned to Detachment 1, Company F, 106th Aviation Battalion, Army National
Guard, Davenport, Iowa. Died on November 2, 2003.
Cpl. Darrell L. Smith, 28, of Otwell, Indiana. Smith died in Baghdad, Iraq when his humvee rolled over off the road,
trapping him under and killing him instantly. He was assigned to D Company, 1st Battalion, 152nd Infantry Regiment,
Army National Guard, based in Washington, Indiana. Died on November 23, 2003.
CWO Eric A. Smith, 41, of California. Killed when his UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter crashed in central Iraq. He was
assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 3rd Aviation Regiment, Hunter Army Airfield, Georgia. Died on April 2, 2003.
Pfc. Jeremiah D. Smith, 25, of Odessa, Missouri. Smith was escorting heavy equipment transporters when his vehicle

Sgt. John M. Smith, 22, of Wilmington, North Carolina. Smith died in Iskandariyah, Iraq, from injuries sustained when

Sgt. Michael A. Smith, 24, of Camden, Arkansas. Smith died at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C.,
from injuries sustained in Baghdad, Iraq, on November 7, 2004 when he was attacked by enemy forces using small arms

Sgt. Roderic A. Solomon, 32, of Fayetteville, North Carolina. Killed when a Bradley Fighting Vehicle rolled off a cliff in
a non-hostile accident in Iraq. He was assigned to the 2-7th Infantry, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia. Died
on March 28, 2003.
Staff Sgt. Juan M. Solorio, 32, of Dallas, Texas. Solorio died in Mosul, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device
detonated near his military vehicle as his unit was being attacked by enemy forces using small arms fire. He was

Sgt. Skipper Soram, 23, of Kolonia Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia. Soram died in Baghdad, Iraq, when a
vehicle-based improvised explosive device detonated near his security post. He was assigned to 3rd Battalion, 82nd
Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas. Died on September 22, 2004.
Pfc. Armando Soriano, 20, of Houston, Texas. Soriano was traveling in a two-vehicle convoy on a supply route when
weather conditions caused his vehicle to slide off the road and roll over. He died as a result of his injuries in Haditha,
Iraq. Soriano was assigned to the howitzer battery, 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort Carson,
Colorado; The unit is currently attached to the 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Died on February 1,
2004.
Cpl. Tomas Sotelo, Jr., 20, of Houston, Texas. Sotelo was traveling in a convoy when a rocket propelled grenade
struck his vehicle in Baghdad, Iraq. Sotelo was assigned to Headquarters Troop, 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Fort
Polk, Louisiana. Died on June 27, 2003.
Pfc. Kenneth C. Souslin, 21, of Mansfield, Ohio. Souslin died of non-combat related injuries at Baghdad International
Airport, Iraq. He was assigned to the 440th Signal Company, 22nd Signal Brigade, V Corps, Darmstadt, Germany. Died

Pfc. Jason L. Sparks, 19, of Monroeville, Ohio. Sparks died in Fallujah, Iraq, when his platoon was engaged in direct
fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 503rd Infantry Regiment, Camp Casey, Korea. Died on September 8, 2004.
Maj. Christopher J. Splinter, 43, of Platteville, Wisconsin. Splinter died when his vehicle struck an improvised
explosive device on Highway One near Samarra, Iraq. He was assigned to the 5th Engineer Battalion, 1st Engineer
Brigade, Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Died on December 24, 2003.
Staff Sgt. Marvin R. Sprayberry III, 24, of Tehachapi, California. Sprayberry died in Balad, Iraq, when his military
vehicle left the road and flipped over in a canal. He was assigned to the 4th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division,
Vilseck, Germany. Died on May 3, 2004.
Pvt. Bryan Nicholas Spry, 19, of Chestertown, Maryland. Spry died in Baghdad, Iraq, when his vehicle rolled into a
water-filled ditch. He was assigned to Company D, 1st Battalion, 504th Infantry, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg,
North Carolina. Died on February 13, 2004.
Sgt. Maj. Michael B. Stack, 48, of Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Stack died in Al Anbar Province, Iraq, while his unit was
conducting combat operations. Stack was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 5th Special Forces Group, Fort Campbell,
Kentucky. Died on April 11, 2004.
Pfc. Nathan E. Stahl, 20, of Highland, Indiana. Stahl died in Iraq, when his vehicle was struck with an improvised
explosive device. He was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment, Fort Lewis, Washington. Died on
September 21, 2004.
Staff Sgt. Eric M. Steffeney, 28, of Waterloo, Iowa. Steffeney died in Tuz, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device
detonated. He was assigned to the 184th Ordnance Battalion, 52nd Ordnance Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Died
on February 23, 2005.
Staff Sgt. Joseph W. Stevens, 26, of Sacramento, California. Stevens died in Mohammed Sacran, Iraq, when his
Bradley Fighting Vehicle overturned. He was assigned to the 2d Battalion, 2d Infantry, 1st Infantry Division, Vilseck,
Germany. Died on January 24, 2005.
Spc. Randy L. Stevens, 21, of Swartz Creek, Michigan. Stevens died in Ar Ramadi, Iraq, while conducting combat
operations. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 17th Field Artillery Regiment, 2nd Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Infantry
Division, Camp Hovey, Korea. Died on April 16, 2005.
Staff Sgt. Robert A. Stever, 36, of Pendleton, Oregon. Killed in action by enemy fire in Iraq. Stever was assigned to
Headquarters and Headquarters Company, 3rd Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, Fort Stewart,
Georgia. Died on April 8, 2003.
2nd Lt. Matthew R. Stovall, 25, of Horn Lake, Mississippi. Stovall died in Mosul, Iraq, when an improvised explosive
device exploded near his vehicle. He was assigned to the Army National Guard's 367th Maintenance Company, 298th
Corps Support Battalion, Philadelphia, Mississippi. Died on August 22, 2004.
Pfc. William R. Strange, 19, of Adrian, Georgia. Strange died in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive device
detonated where he was setting up an observation point. He was assigned to the 91st Engineer battalion, 1st Cavalry
Division, Fort Hood, Texas. Died on April 2, 2004.
Capt. Mark N. Stubenhofer, 30, of Springfield, Virginia. Stubenhofer died in Baghdad, Iraq, when his unit was
conducting dismounted operations and was attacked by small arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 41st
Infantry Regiment, 1st Armored Division, Fort Riley, Kansas. Died on December 7, 2004.
Spc. William R. Sturges, Jr., 24, of Spring Church, Pennsylvania. Sturges was killed when a vehicle-based improvised
explosive device detonated in Khalidiyah, Iraq. He was assigned to Company B, 1st Squadron, 9th Cavalry, Fort Hood,
Texas. Died on January 24, 2004.
Spc. Paul J. Sturino, 21, of Rice Lake, Wisconsin. Sturino died from a non-combat weapons discharge in Quest, Iraq.
He was assigned to B Battery, 2nd Battalion, 320th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Died on
September 22, 2003.

Black Hawk helicopters crashed in Mosul, Iraq. He was assigned to the 626th Forward Support Battalion, 101st Airborne
Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Kentucky. Died on November 15, 2003.
Spc. Narson B. Sullivan, 21, of North Brunswick, New Jersey. Killed by a non-combat weapon discharge. He was
assigned to 411th Military Police Company, Fort Hood, Texas. Died on April 25, 2003.
Pfc. Ernest Harold Sutphin, 21, of Parkersburg, West Virginia. Sutphin died in Landstuhl, Germany, from injuries
sustained in a vehicle incident in Kirkuk, Iraq, on March 11, 2004. He was assigned to the 2nd Battalion, 11th Field
Artillery, 25th Infantry Division (Light), Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. Died on March 18, 2004.
Staff Sgt. Michael J. Sutter, 28, of Tinley Park, Illinois. Sutter was attempting to render safe an improved explosive
device in Baqubah, Iraq when it detonated. He was assigned to the 745th Ordnance Company, 79th Ordnance Battalion,
Army National Guard, based in Grayling, Michigan. Died on December 26, 2003.
Sgt. Brett D. Swank, 21, of Northumberland, Pennsylvania. Swank died in Baghdad, Iraq, from injuries sustained when
an improvised explosive device detonated near his position. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 509th Infantry
Regiment, Fort Polk, Louisiana. Died on January 24, 2005.
CW5 Sharon T. Swartworth, 43, of Virginia. Swartworth died when the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter she was in was
shot down by unknown enemy ordnance in Tikrit, Iraq. Swartworth was the regimental warrant officer for the Judge
Advocate General Office, based at Headquarters Department of the Army, Pentagon. Died on November 7, 2003.
Sgt. Robert W. Sweeney III, 22, of Pineville, Louisiana. Sweeney died in Baghdad, Iraq, when an improvised explosive
device hit his military vehicle. He was assigned to the Army National Guard's 3rd Battalion, 156th Infantry Regiment,
256th Infantry Brigade, Lake Charles, Louisiana. Died on January 10, 2005.
Sgt. Thomas J. Sweet II, 23, of Bismarck, North Dakota. Sweet died of non-combat related injuries in Junction City,
Iraq. He was assigned to 1st Battalion, 5th Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, Fort Riley, Kansas. Died on
